I believe the Creative Commons deserves the Pioneer Award because they have placed the power of ownership control directly into the hands of content producers. The more we depart from traditional publishing models, the more we are faced with situations in which traditional copyright creates legal problems. By providing a mechanism for variation in types of content protection, Creative Commons has provided a visionary framework for collaborative publishing.
